The dress code at the Rand Hunt may appear a little over the top, but there are good reasons for wearing what seems to be rather hot clothing in the middle of summer. A well presented Hunt field is seen as a sign of respect to the landowner or host who allows us to hunt on his property - a privilege which is not taken lightly. There are compelling safety issues as well. The Rand Hunt insists that everyone in the field wears a good hat to protect their head and boots with a good heel to stop a foot from going through the stirrup. Anyone without these will be sent home. In addition it is recommended that a jacket be worn to guard against grazing. The colours of the jackets worn on any hunt have great significance. The standard dress code for anyone riding with the Rand Hunt is a black or tweed jacket with cream or beige breeches. Ladies may wear a navy blue jacket. A white stock should be worn with the black jacket and a tie with a tweed coat. Gentlemen wear black boots with or without brown tops and ladies wear black boots without the brown tops.
