A hunting whip with a thong and lash is correct for anyone in the field who wishes to carry one, however it is only to be used by the Huntsman and Whippers-in unless called upon to do so by them. The red collars seen on the black jackets indicate that the wearer is a “Subscriber” to the Rand Hunt. The jacket is worn with the Rand Hunt’s engraved black buttons. Members who have shown continued dedicated support of the Hunt and have contributed their time, effort (and very often cash) over an extended period are recognised by being invited to become Subscribers. This honour comes with a curse, as acceptance of the invitation results in these members paying a substantially higher annual membership fee!
