Red Jackets

The right to wear a Red Jacket is awarded to members at the sole discretion of the Joint Masters. Many years of exceptional dedication to all aspects of the Hunt both in and out of the hunt season appear to be deciding factors in the award of this much sought after and rarely bestowed honour. Many people insist on calling these red coats “Pinks”. One theory about the origin of this term refers to a tailor named Pink (or Pinke, or Pinque). The Oxford English Dictionary makes no mention of this legend merely referring to ‘pink’ as a foxhunter’s red coat.  We believe that  “Red” or even “Scarlet” is a perfectly adequate description.
